Thanks Dr. Gina Schochenmaier

Iowa Western Community College's Department of Communications and Fine Arts thanks Dr. Gina Schochenmaier for her service as a Dean. In the beginning, there is a couple of jokes about how to pronounce our last name)))) Schochenmaier could be even pronounced as "schoolenmaier". It's really funny!!!

But, the real fun that I don't have any Gina Schochenmaier on our family tree... It's strange. Do you know her?

Leon Schochenmaier, Pierre’s city administrator, was awarded the highest honor handed out by the South Dakota Municipal League at the league’s annual conference in Watertown this week.
Schochenmaier, city administrator since 2006, was given the Excellence in South Dakota Municipal Government Award, which is handed out only once every two years by the League, which is headquartered in Fort Pierre.
“To be the one recipient from the very impressive list of nominees we received this year, is really a testament to Leon and his commitment to the city of Pierre, said League Director Yvonne Taylor in a news release from the city. “He’s widely regarded throughout the state as an excellent leader and adviser to many.”
At City Commission meetings, Schochenmaier sits at Mayor Laurie Gill’s left side but he’s her right-hand, go-to guy, she said in nominating him for the award.
“During the 2011 flood, Leon worked on little-to-no sleep to direct department heads and coordinate with stakeholders to save property and mitigate damage,”  said Gill, who is second vice-president of the nonprofit League which dates to 1934. “He was indispensable in helping the community and its residents prepare for, sustain and recover from the flood.”
A key accomplishment pointed to by Gill is that under Schochenmaier’s leadership the city set up the state’s first consolidated 911/emergency dispatch center that takes calls from several agencies and counties.
